In the lobby of Loyola School of Theology's Horacio dela Costa Center hangs Jose Blanco's Salubong, a painting depicting the traditional Filipino Easter dawn procession. A popular devotion in the Philippines, the Salubong reenacts the encounter between the Risen Christ and His Mother.

Sacred Scripture may be silent about this event, but St. Ignatius, in The Spiritual Exercises, offers us this scene for contemplation. Surely, Jesus must have appeared to His Mother to wipe away her tears and share with her the joy of the Resurrection.

The image of the Salubong summarizes well the vision and mission of LST: We strive to bring others--and ourselves--to a deeper encounter with Christ.
