Re : University community participation in a November 30, 2016 Marcos burial indignation rally at the People Power Monument
Please be informed that concerned members of the Ateneo de Manila University community, joining many others from various sectors of society, will participate in a Marcos burial indignation rally at the People Power Monument, EDSA corner White Plains Road, starting at 4 pm on Wednesday, 30 November 2016. The rally is being organized by a broad section of anti-Marcos burial groups, including the Coalition Against the Marcos Burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (CAMB-LnB), Block Marcos Movement, and iDEFEND human rights coalition.
The rally is expected to end at 12 midnight, but the Ateneo contingent will leave earlier than that.
Faculty members, professionals and staff who wish to join the Ateneo delegation for this mass action can sign up for it at https://goo.gl/9NQtlZ. (A separate sign-up sheet will be drawn up for students' participation.). Would-be participants are requested to assemble at Xavier Hall on Wednesday, 30 November 2016 at 1:30 pm for a brief orientation before proceeding to the rally site. While jeepneys will be made available for transporting participants, the organizers are urging all those who are fit and able to walk or bike, to do so from the Ateneo campus to the People Power monument, so as to show greater solidarity with those who suffered atrocities during the Martial Law period.
A presentation is also being prepared which would deepen the knowledge of the Ateneo contingent on the experiences of representatives of different marginalized sectors during the Martial Law period. This is intended to be presented to the contingent at the venue of the rally, before its 4pm start.
Participants are urged to wear black at the rally.
Participation in this rally and its preparations once again arise from the resolve of concerned Ateneo de Manila students, faculty, and staff.University administration itself supports such participation, in line with Father President's having called upon the University community, in his 9 November 2016 memorandum, to among others "continue to protest and express our indignation” at the Marcos burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. On behalf of Father President, I invite all those in the University community who are sympathetic with, or wish to know more about, the stance to support these initiatives and attend the activities on November 30, 2016.
(Another organizational meeting for the mobilization will be held on Monday, 28 November 2016, at 2 pm, at the Office for Social Concern and Involvement [OSCI], Room 104, Manuel V. Pangilinan Hall. The meeting is open to all who may be interested in joining the mobilization preparations. For details of both the mobilization and the organizational meeting, please contact Ms. Floy Soriano
, at OSCI.)
